Delurking!

Well, this initiative stems from a friend’s blog. The last couple of days have seen a total of 115 people visiting this blog, and spending an average of nearly 4 minutes each.

However, in total, they’ve contributed a meagre 9 comments (with 2 of them being replies from yours truly.)

So you, you, you and YOUUUUU are doing nothing but lurking! Come on, write a little note. I’d like to know who you are, what you like reading, what brings you back here, or what drives you off.

It would be so much nicer, if you’d invite me back to your blog, and I could come and read what you have to share. So, let’s declare this day as ‘Delurk Divus’ and pledge to not lurk anymore. (This is not to say that you shouldn’t visit, but merely to suggest that you be less lazy and comment.)

If you hate me, say so! I promise to not let my henchmen come after you, and subject you to the Italian Mafia treatment. :D

If you love me, of course you ought to say so, especially if you belong to the feminine gender! (I’m not desperate. We’ll have a proper selection procedure, of course. However, I believe in equal opportunity, so I’d still like to know you *wink wink*)

If you couldn’t care less, so what? Still write!

Now stop lurking, and help me delurk…. please….

P.S. All copyrights for the term ‘delurk’ rest with Ms. Parul Sharma, who resides at Bringing up Adi.

On my blog ( www.gurdit.com/blog/ ), I don't get too many readers. But I get even fewer comments. I asked a friend of mine (who claims to read every single post) why he never commented. And he said a very simple answer. He said it's simply because what I blog about doesn't always interest him.

Well, I wouldn't go back to a blog too often if it simply didn't interest me. Maybe, a few times, but not beyond. So, I think I differ on that view. :)

Guilty! Actually I came by last night to catch up on your posts and was too sleepy to comment - I know that's a sad excuse....what to do, we're like that only.
Prepare for the onslaught!

Missed you!
Corinne

What exactly is the 'Italian Mafia treatment'?

On a different note...
I came, I read, I commented... & now I'm leaving! :-D

Anubhuti :)

Aquarius :D Thanks!

Nikita... you're forgiven because you had exams. (How did you do? )

Corinne... :D Good to see you here (again) ;)

Kaddu... Haven't read/seen 'The Godfather', eh? (Remember the phrase, 'sleeping with the fishes'?) I could say more, but I'm bound by the omerta - the Italian law of silence.

How true! I see approx 100 hits per week on my blog but only recently have I started getting decent number of comments. And most of the comments are from my regular readers anyways.

Many people dont realize that comments enhance the power of blogs manifold. I think I need to run a similar exercise and try to get my readers to comment more often as well!

And while we are at it, have you observed how many people do not even follow up on the comments they leave on your post? If you respond to a reader's comment; there are 50% chances that he/she will never re-respond!

Hi don't know about the rest but this is my first time here... So, this probably doesn't apply to me.
Even though I am pretty new to blogging I am pretty sure its the regular readers who always comment and yes as every one keeps telling me "content is king"...
You can find me from now on in your comments and in the followers list though...

Comment Comment Comment
I commented thrice! :P

@Kiran... Absolutely! I think irrespective of whether one agrees/disagrees/is-neutral to opinions expressed, commenting about them gives the writer a different perspective that he/she can use in broadening his/her horizons.

@Mukund... welcome to this space. :) I agree, "Content is king."

@Shreyans... I'm thankful that I won't be the only one at XL being told that my humour levels are sad, this year. :)

60% of the people who land up on my Blog after searching some keywords on Search Engines and they just leave after readings. the only other comment i had received was on my post on Polycap, where the reader landed after searching for pill by the name of Polycap. rest all comments come from bloggers, especially who come from IndiBlogger.

Hey just noticed... 7 comments from 50 followers (not counting Mukund as he just joined)... those are really saddening figures! What are the rest of them doing?
What's your average weekly stat btw? And whr do u chk these figures?

Sumit said...

@Hemal... I get mostly referred traffic from indiblogger or other people's blogs. My search engine traffic does not form more than 10% of the total.

@Kaddu... saddening indeed. :( Btw, I get around 280-300 visits from 180-200 visitors per week. (Stats from Google Analytics)

The post sure worked. :) There are 16 comments on it already including this one. :)

Oh yes! I've stopped lurking on my blog and this is my fifth comment. I think I'm taking my post very seriously. :D

I've been lurking lately due to computer issues.

Content is king. I get about 150-300 hits per day. And more page views (500-2k). Some people are on my blog for hours reading every post. But they never ever leave a comment. I even have a few followers that I have no idea who they are. I am like, who are you? You spent 8 hours on my blog reading 103 posts and not even a hello?

I like comments but I've come to terms that some people just don't comment. As curious I am about them,I don't think it is rude. It is just the way things are.

Meanwhile, keep writing good content!

Sumit said...

@Nikita, no more questions about exams. Please don't give me the mafia treatment.

@Prashant, thanks! :)

@Scriber, looking at the analytics data, it is pretty easy to figure out, who could be reading my blog from Austin, Texas. :)
